been awhile

Wow, it has been so long again since I’'ve blogged

I was in Hong Kong again last week, spent Tuesday afternoon in town, first I had a small meeting with someone from a sourcing office, then I didn’t know what to do, if I should go to Lantau and see the Big Buddha again, (great vegetarian lunch), but then, since I had already gotten off the MTR in Admiralty, I decided to walk to the lower Peak Tram station and take the tram up, that was so cool! Naturally at the upper peak, they have a modern building with a great viewing platform, but inside are all kinds of fast food joints, cafes, and souvenir shops.

It was really neat, now that I can spend some hours at a time in HK, and have started learning to get around by myself, it is so much more interesting there. I bought an “Octopus” card last time I was there, really just a reloadable RFID or chip card, it is really practical. For those who don’t know anything about it, you load it up with a few HK-Dollars, and when entering or leaving certain public transport system, you just lay your wallet (or whatever you have it in) on a plate, and it shows how much is still loaded, and what the fare being taken off is. You can reload it at 7-11 (where you can pay for your groceries with it as well) or at the MTR stations. And as for example at the peak tram stations, there was usually a long line of tourists to pay for their tickets, and holders of the octopus card, just walk up to the next turnstile, lay down the card, and are immediately admitted.

It is strange, but I always get “homesick” for HK a few days after returning to Germany. I still don’t know how it would really be to live there, but the other day, I saw that they only have a maximum of 16% taxes on your pay, with reductions for dependents, there is also some sort of health care plan that takes another 5%, but I am not sure how that all works. But for example I pay around 28% on my wages, and that is LOW, other people, for example even my wife pas up to 45%. I still want to find out about employers tax obligations for their workers, but in Germany, the rule of thumb, is for every 1 EURO the worker is being paid, the company pays almost 1 EURO in taxes, so for a worker that earns say 2000 EURO, the company is paying almost 4000 EURO, and that is why so many companies are so pressed when it comes to hiring a new worker.

Weekend in Munich

Well well well, the seasons, they are a´changen. And I don’t like it at all. It was actually nice the past few days though, I took Friday off from work, went to Munich to a concert from Jet. Well the full story is, my wife and I went to see Jet in concert on Thursday evening, and we booked a room, so that we could stay and go shopping on Friday, and then drive home on Saturday.

First surprise, Jet cancelled because of “Vocal cord afflictions” yeah right, sounded like “didn’t-feel-like-showing afflictions” No, that is unfair, someone may really have been sick, so I can’t complain. Anyways, we then went to a steak house in the city centre, to have a big 300-gram rib-eye nice´n´bloody – yeah just the way I like em. Maybe politically and maybe health wise incorrect, but hey in Europe nobody is on that train yet, so I don’t have to worry. Naturally I do have thoughts about my health, so when I get back from China again, I have said, I will start swinging my diet back to the healthier side. In China, it is easy anyways, a lot of veggies, and fish and such. For all, someone who cooks it. That is the hardest thing about eating healthy at home, is, what to cook, what to buy? In Germany, it seems they only have limited resources of veggies. Zucchini, tomatoes, cabbage, and such. And sooner or sooner you are through all of them and you get sick of looking at them. As well as the recipes, I know I don’t, and my wife who also works a lot doesn’t have any desire to be trying out a different recipe every day after work, it should be easy and quick. Well I should quite griping and just do it right? Right.

Well right now I have about 114kg (last time I stepped onto the scale) and so I want to loose about 14 of that and get back to about 98 to 100 kg. Of course a big part of that is getting active again, the problem is once I start, after a couple of days it really starts to be fun, and then something comes up (usually another trip to China, or vacation, or, or, or,) then I stop, and if I don’t immediately start again, then it is 1 then 2, then 3,4,5 weeks, and then it is like starting over again. It used to be, that I had a small beer belly, and it didn’t bother me, but now I have just turned 40, and I am getting a bigger beer belly, and now it does bother me. I am not happy looking at myself in the mirror any more. So time to make the cut, and start getting back in shape. Who knows, maybe I should start using this or another blog to start charting and documenting my way back to the slim and healthy Alan.

Anyways, back to Munich. After Steak, on Friday we went into town, and went shopping. The. Whole. Day. Long. Around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, we went back to the room and rested a bit, and then went back to town to a restaurant where I reserved a table. I had been to a similar restaurant in Cologne before. It is Persian cooking, in Cologne we sat on pillows on the floor, around a small table, ate, drank, and afterwards watched a belly dancer and smoked a shisha (water pipe) filled with aromatic tobacco (yeah, just tobacco) but it was great. Anyways, in Munich I wanted to do the same with my wife, but alas, we sat at a table, there was no dancing, and at the end, she didn’t want to smoke a pipe, so we just ate a very good Persian meal, went over to an Irish pub, that was so full, that we resigned and went back to the room, got a couple of brews from the hotel bar up to the room and watched the box awhile.

It was still a great weekend, and I still really enjoy getting off with my wife for a romantic weekend without the kids. I guess what makes me proud of the whole thing, is that it was our 19th anniversary, and we still get on great. Looking forward to our 20th, just not sure where to go yet.

Wee bit long

so now, I see it has been a wee bit long since I last posted. all those hard core bloggers out there will ask themselves...

"why have a blog if you are not blogging regularly?…”

well, says I

 ”none of your blogging business, go stick your nose-cone in someone else’s orbit”

No, I really don’t want to be so aggressive, but what the hell, everyone is so aggressive these days, we all feel like India-Pakistan, or USA-Iran/Iraq/Afghanistan/Environment/Clean air/______(fill in blank). As I am living in the Good ol’ Republic of Germany, I see things different than a lot of Americans living in the good ol’ US of A. Please don’t think that I am un-patriotic, because I am still proud to be an American, and I would probably never even think of becoming a German, but when I see the way Bush is ruining America’s reputation, and friendships the world over, it really makes me want to puke, but that would not help me keep any friends, at the most it would help me lose weight.

Like the “Pro-Ana” girls I read about in the paper this morning. Girls and women who are being sucked into a Pro anorexia mindset to become thin, now I see that there are a lot of obese people in the “civilised” western nations, and that is definitely a problem, but to go into the other extreme is even more dangerous, as people tend to die quicker for lack of food, than over abundance. If these women think that being so thin is so beautiful, and that not eating is a sure way to reach their ideals, then they should do a “life swap” with someone in Ethiopia or somewhere else where the people are so thin through no fault of their own.

At the moment, life in Germany isn’t so rosy, I took my family to Hong Kong for a couple of days on a mixed business / vacation mix. It was the first time that I really got to move around in HK, other than “Nathan Road” where all the Indian guys want to sell a copy-watch every 2.36 meters. If I had so much money to buy so many copy-watches, then I could probably afford a real Rolex or Brightling. AND if I bought so many, then I wouldn’t be able to walk after about three blocks. On the other hand, maybe I could re-sale them and earn enough money to buy a real Rolex or Brightling. Anyways, back to the story, I enjoyed myself so much, that I really started thinking about moving to HK myself. It would take awhile to get everything ready, and to tell the truth, I really don’t know if it would actually be so great to lie there. But Germany is becoming less and less of a Lifelong-option, and the fact that almost everyone in Florida can buy and use guns at a such scary rate makes me think twice (or more) about living there again. Where else? Somewhere warm, with some industry so I could get a job… who knows?

Well I’m gonna go now.

The chicken, the road, the other side

In light of the ever arising questions, jokes, reasoning, and philosophical musings of why the chicken crossed the road, I thought I’d add my mustard to the discussion in the form of a small piece of prose. Yes I tried to think like a chicken, I tried to set myself into her (yes her, otherwise it would have been a rooster) mindset, why would I cross a road. Without  making pretence to any cultural or economic situation or background of the chicken, I tried to set myself into “Chickenness”

I hope that I have succeeded in some small way.

The chicken, the road, the other side

Feathers itching, beak yellow.

The road.

The taste of the last worm still salty on my tongue

The road calls.

My feathers itch

I scratch, and still the road…

It calls.

“other side, other side” it whispers, it calls

I must follow.

Run, I run, zigging and zagging

My feathers itching, my head buzzing, the road, it whispers under my running, my scratching feet. “other side” it calls.

I arrive, exhaustion pours over me.

My feathers.

The road

It calls.

Back from Hong Kong

Well we are back from China and Hong Kong, shame it was just a week, but on the other hand, maybe best so, my kids went on a souvenir shopping spree. They were given 50 EURO shopping money from their grandmother, and spent about twice that. Oh well, it could be that they are never able to go there again, so its OK.

Hong Kong was great. It is loud, full, dirty, stinks, and everything else that makes up a big city, but I think as most people don’t really know that much about HK, they don’t realise that Hong Kong city itself really isn’t big at all, it is actually just a strip along the north shore of a small island. But all the burbs, the townships and territories that belong to HK make it really huge. There is so much to see, inside and outside the city. If anyone gets the chance to go and explore the city more than just flying in and out, then it is really worth it. All I can say is do your homework before you go, so that you have some ideas what you want to see and do before you get there. And don’t underestimate the distances. Even though HK city itself, and the parts of town across the bay look relatively close and small on the map, it is not worth it to walk all of it unless you are really fit. The MTR (subway) and trams, and ferries are greatly organised, and inexpensive, even the taxis are cheap, so better to pay a small price and save a lot of walking, especially if you go when it is hot, like we did, it easily reaches 35°c + and is highly humid. My jeans were always soaked (my own fault, I could have worn shorts) but like in Florida, outside it is around 35°c, in the shops and restaurants it is a chilly 18°c – 20°c, so always keep a light shirt or sweater with you if you go eat or go into a café for any length of time.

As for all the bad things, it is strangely, the only BIG city that I could really imagine living in up till now. Of course I don’t know how it would be to really live there, life is life, and work is work, wherever you go, but I could never have imagined living in Munich, Paris, Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa, or any other big city I have visited. (I never was in New York)

At the moment it would be out of the question, but who knows what life has in store.

Gotta run.

A little rabbit is running happily through the forest when he stumbles upon a giraffe rolling a joint.

The rabbit looks at the giraffe and says, "Giraffe my friend, why do you do this? Come. Run with me through the forest! You''ll feel so much better!"

The giraffe looks at him, looks at the joint, tosses it and goes off running with the rabbit. Then they come across an elephant doing coke.

So the rabbit again says, "Elephant my friend, why do you do this? Think about your health. Come. Run with us through the pretty forest, you''ll see, you''ll feel so good!"

The elephant looks at them, looks at his razor, mirror and coke, then tosses them and starts running with the rabbit and giraffe. The three animals then come across a lion about to shoot up.

"Lion my friend, why do you do this? Think about your health! Come. Run with us through the beautiful forest and you''ll feel so good!" The lion looks at him, puts down his needle, and mauls the rabbit.

The giraffe and elephant watch in horror and look at him and ask, "Lion, why did you do this? He was merely trying to help you."

The lion answers, "That little bastard! He makes me run around the forest like a f**king idiot every time he's on ecstasy!"

The Plan

In the beginning was the Plan.

And then came the Assumptions.

And the Assumptions were without form.

And the Plan was without substance.

And darkness was upon the face of the Workers.

And they spoke among themselves, saying, "It is a crock of sh*t, and it stinks."

And the Workers went unto their Supervisors and said, "It is a pail of dung, and we can't live with the smell.

And the Supervisors went unto their Managers, saying, "It is the container of the excrements, and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it."

And the Mangers went unto their Directors, saying, "It is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its strength."

And the Directors spoke among themselves, saying to one another, "It promotes growth, and it is very powerful."

And the Vice Presidents went to the President, saying unto him, "This new plan will actively promote the growth and vigor of the company with very powerful effects."

And the President looked upon the Plan and saw that it was good.

And the Plan became Policy.

And that is how sh*t happens.

I ( HEART) BLONDS

A blonde says to a brunette, ''Excuse me, but each time I sip my coffee, my eye seems to hurt.''

The brunette says, ''Well maybe you should take the spoon out of the cup.''
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A blonde was having sharp pains in her side.
The doctor examined her and said, ''You have acute appendicitis.''
The blond yelled at the doctor...
''I came here to get medical help, not get a stupid compliment!!''
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A blonde got a dent in her car and took it in to the repair shop.
The repairman, noticing that the woman was a blonde, decided to have a wee bit of fun.

So he told her all she had to was take it home and blow in the tailpipe until the dent popped itself out.

After 15 minutes of this, the blonde's blonde friend came over and asked what she was doing.

"I'm trying to pop out this dent, but it's not really working."

"Duh. You have to roll up the windows first!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Blonde airhead goes for a job interview in an office.
The interviewer starts with the basics.
"So, Miss, can you tell us your age, please?"
The blonde counts carefully on her fingers for half a minute before replying "Ehhhh... 22!"
The interviewer tries another straightforward one to break the ice.
"And can you tell us your height, please?"
The young lady stands up and produces a measuring tape from her handbag. She then traps one end under her foot and extends the tape to the top of her head. She checks the measurement and announces "Five foot two!"
This isn't looking good so the interviewer goes for the real basics; something the interviewee won't have to count, measure, or lookup.
"Just to confirm for our records, your name please?"
The airhead bobs her head from side to side for about ten seconds, mouthing something silently to herself, before replying "MANDY!"
The interviewer is completely baffled at this stage, so he asks -
"What in the world were you doing when I asked you your name?"
"Ohhhh, that!" replies the airhead...
" I was just running through that song -
'Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear...'
A blonde walks into a pharmacy and asks the assistant for some rectum deodorant.
The pharmacist, a little bemused, explains to the woman they don't sell rectum deodorant, and never have.
Unfazed, the blonde assures the pharmacist that she has been buying the stuff from this store on a regular basis and would like some more.
"I'm sorry", says the pharmacist, "we don't have any"
'But I always buy it here," says the blonde.
"Do you have the container that it came in?" asks the pharmacist
"YES", said the blonde, "I'll go home and get it."
She returns with the container and hands it to the pharmacist who looks at it and says to her, "This is just a normal stick of underarm deodorant"
Annoyed, the blonde snatches the container back and reads out loud from the container, "TO APPLY, PUSH UP BOTTOM."
yesterday germany got thier asses kicked in the world championships, shame, in the last few years I never really liked the German national team
1. ´cause they seemed arrogant
2. ´cause it seemed they only won thru luck
3. ´cause there where too many players from fc bayern munich, which led to s. point 1.
but this year with "klinsi" they were a young fresh crew, who had spass with the game. i guess it took someone who lived in america awhile to understand fun, lord knows the germans usually really arent a fun oriented group of individuals.
now we just need to get our ami-boys in shape for 2010, and show the world that we can play more than just american football, and baseball, and basketball. maybe after that we can make a charge on cricket, but then again what the hell for?
What your computer is really telling you....
It says: "Press Any Key"
It means: "Press any key you like but I'm not moving." Or "Oh no, not that one!!"
It says: "Press A Key"
(This one's a programmer's joke. Nothing happens unless you press the "A" key.)
It says: "Fatal Error. Please contact technical support quoting error no. 1A4-2546512430E"
It means: "... where you will be kept on hold for 10 minutes, only to be told that it's a hardware problem."
It says: "Installing program to C:\<Directory>...."
It means: "... And I'll also be writing a few files into c:\windows and c:\windows\system where you'll NEVER find them."
It says: "Please insert disk 11"
It means: "Because I know darn well there are only 10 disks."
It says: "Not enough memory"
It means: "I don't CARE if you've got 256MB of RAM, I want to use the bit below 640K."
It says: "Cannot read from drive D:...."
It means: "... However, if you put the CD in right side up..."
It says: "Please Wait...."
It means: "... Indefinitely."
It says: "Directory does not exist...."
It means: ".... any more. Whoops."
It says: "The application caused an error. Choose Ignore or Close."
It means: "....Makes no difference to me, you're still not getting your work back."
s'long time
Howdy. It has surely been a long time since i have posted any thing. Even at my other two blogs, (http://sex-mail-wisdoms.blogspot.com/, http://americans-in-ulm.blogspot.com/)
I think one major problem was that my laptop got shredded, well, part of the registration and personal preferences, it took our IT freaks a few days to get (nearly) everything back up to the way it was supposed to be.
Is it just me or does it really seem that after months or even years of working with a system, and you have all the programs you need, all your preferences are perfectly set up, all your links function correctly, and then the crash. Afterwards, I can never get everything working 100% like it was before, even if all the programs work, almost everything is the same, but it is like the stories in the sci-fi novels, “you know its Jim, it looks and behaves like Jim, but something is missing”
Another key point in my lack of posts is just plain ol’ ugly laziness.
I think the best thing is to get outlook set up again, so that I can start doing the lunch-blogs again. Now that is, that works for my personal, and the Amis-in-Ulm, but wont work for  the sex-wisdoms. That is really a shame, we were getting the spam on our server at work, but now the ITFs have set up a good spam filter that really cut down on the amount of spam received (ASR).  That means no spam = no sex mail wisdoms. I’m not sure what to do hear. I don’t want to use that as an excuse to surf the sex pages and gather cookies, or leave my e-amil, but a man has to do what has to be done (excluding taking out the trash, cleaning the kitchen, etc.)
I’ll give it some more thought and you may see on the increase of ASR = POSMW (posting on sex-mail-wisdoms)
Btw, I checked out my sister’s blog at http://thegilletteplace.com/blogs/myblog.html, and she hasn’t posted anything in awhile either, HA!
How to handle returns after Christmas (From my Bro-In-Law)
PINCH MY NIPPLES
Keep this in mind when you have something to return and the store gives
you a hard way to go! Should be fun.  So says a Walmart Employee!!!!
A woman went to a K-Mart service counter and tells the clerk she wants
refund for the toaster she bought because it won't work.  The clerk
tells her that he can't give her a refund because she bought it on  special".
Suddenly, the woman throws her arms up in the air and starts screaming,
"PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES!!!!!!"
The befuddled clerk ran away to get the store manager in front a  growing
crowd of customers. The manager goes to the woman and asks,  "Ma'am what's wrong?"
She explained the problem with the toaster, and  HE tells her that he can't
give her a refund because she bought it on special.
Once again, the woman throws her arms up in the air and starts  screaming
"PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES!!!!"
nd doing so draws and even bigger crowd!  In shock, the store manager pleads
"Ma'am, why are you saying that?  I
n a huff, the woman says,
"BECAUSE, I LIKE TO HAVE MY NIPPLES PINCHED  WHEN I AM BEING SCREWED!!
The crowd broke into applause and her money was quickly refunded.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year...
WoW - Christmas time again...
.. and where has the year gone? just a couple of weeks ago I was in China again, and now almost four weeks have passed, and I am still fighting on all fronts on my desk. The waY it looks I wont be taking any vacation this year, maybe a couple of days here and there, or rather 1/2 days, I want to use the time when we are officially closed to get my desk, and my office cleaned up.
Right now there is snow is still on the ground, and although I really despise snow, I have to admit, as long as it is fresh, and I am sitting inside looking out of my window, then it can be deemed "pretty" - otherwise, global warming doesnt seem like a bad idea (yeah send my selfish, non-eco - self to hell)
The problem is, that it wont stay very lomg, it is already melting a bit in the sun, and if no new snow comes, or if it actually starts raining (or sleeting) then it looks like we will have a grey Christmas (sounds like a good song from "the Mode" - "I'm dreaming of a grey Christmas/ where my love has killed my heart/ and sorrow abounds/....")
Oh well going off the edge there. no matter.
well gotta go and eat something.
Sorry about the delay, can't blog at work! Here is my reference, please quote them, not me (I'm sorry I forgot to reference them myself)! Enjoy and thanks for reading http://tedblog.typepad.com/tedblog/2005/11/perils_of_urls.html AAAANNNNDDD..... HERE THEY ARE!!!!!
Perils of URLs
An email this morning from TEDster Julian Treasure gave me huge pleasure.
Unbelievably, these are all real sites. ------------ A few salutary examples that should make us all think twice...
Firstly there is Who Represents?, a database for agencies to the rich and famous:
http://www.whorepresents.com
Second is the Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views: http://www.expertsexchange.com
Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island: http://www.penisland.net
Need a therapist? Try: http://www.therapistfinder.com And there is an Italian Power company: http://www.powergenitalia.com
Finally we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales:
long time....
....no write. so i´ll take a couple of minutes to write now. yesterday i was blurfing and came across http://cougars3.blogspot.com/, read the posting from Nov. 8 - Daylight savings trap, the funny URLs - man those are really funny. I posted a remark asking if I may copy them, but so far no answer.
well the days are getting shorter, and now it seems i go to work when its dark and come home when its darker, the only daylight i see is out of my office window. and then it nerves when it shines in and i cant see my screen. so far christmas season is progressing nicley, and so far there has been hardly any snow. as far as i am concerned it can stay that way the next 4 months, brrrr who needs it.
it seems i dont have much interesting words to put in here, so i´ll let be, and maybe i´ll write more tomorrow or the next day, or the next.
Squared and trined
When Mercury squares Uranus on Monday, you will probably receive some news that could come as quite a surprise. The information is going to act as a catalyst. The Sun will move into Sagittarius on Tuesday which highlights love affairs as well as your creative efforts. If you get any insights then use this opportunity to make them real. Jupiter will trine Uranus on Sunday which makes for a rather powerful atmosphere. This could bring a very promising project your way - and a chance to do something you have always wanted to try.
Good to know my anus is going to get squared and trined this week....hmmmm very promising
good joke from classmates
A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. After the game, he asked how she liked it.
"I really liked it," she replied, "but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."
Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"
"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was: 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' I'm like, Hellooo? It's only 25 cents!"
Peeve
Oh yeah, before I go home now, I just wanted to get something off, (which is not the same as getting off on something, that is way more fun,) but anyways, I was blurfing this weekend, and really noted with annoyance, all those bloggers who do away or block in some way THE NEXT BLOG BUTTON, I think every one who is spiffing up the ol´blog should get a high 5 for creativity, but really, I feel that no matter how interesting your blog is dear reader (if anyone has even bothered to read this far) who are you to think that you are the epitome of blogism and that the “blog stops here”?!? I don’t care how interesting or boring ( and there are some damn boring blogs out there) the next blog is, when I am blurfing I (and probably many out there) want a quick escape to the next possibly more exciting blog.
So please, leave the NEXT BLOG button for people who want to explore and see and delve and simply blurf through the night.
Girls night out courtesy of xfunpics.com
The other night I was invited for a night out with "the girls". I told my husband that I would be home by midnight "I promise!"
Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy. Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for home. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times.
Quickly, realizing that my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times.
I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution (even when totally smashed) in order to avoid a possible conflict with him.
The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in, and I told him "midnight". He didn't seem pissed off at all. Whew! Got away with that one!
Then he said, "We need a new cuckoo clock". When I asked him why he said, "Well, last night our clock cuckooed 3 times, then said 'Oh. Shit, then cuckooed 4 more times, cleared it's throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted."
lunch yet again
well its almost lunchtime again, how time flies, right now i´m waiting on word from brian, he had a test at a large hydraulic pump factory this morning, and i´m supposed to pick him up, but he is overdue to call or send an sms. i´m hungry, but the leftover lentils and nudels dont really thrill me, i think i´ll go up and get something else.
lisa has rats now since the weekend. two black and white rats, at first she was absolutely sure that they wouldnt bother her at night, but as it had to come, the first night, she complained that she couldnt sleep, well sonni pushed the cage over into the bathroom, but the next day, we told her, she cant give them back, the pet store wont accept them, and the cage cant be given back because it is a "hygenic" article. so she will have to try again, then i told her, just lay there and listen to them, just dont get mad, just listen, and try to guess what they are doing, and she will fall asleep again automatically, i guess it worked, she said she wakes up 2-3 times a night, but turns over and sleeps. well brian is ready, gotta go and pick´m up (and get something good for lunch.
joke from classmates
One dark and gloomy night, a man is hitch-hiking for a ride. After several hours, he sees a ghost-like car creeping toward him.
The car stops and he gets in to find no one behind the wheel. Frozen with fear, he can't jump or run away.
The car moves forward and eventually approaches a sharp curve. The man prays for his life, sure the ghost car will crash and he'll plunge to his death.
Suddenly, a hand appears through the window and turns the wheel. Terrified, the man jumps out and runs to a nearby bar where he shares his supernatural experience.
As he finishes, two country boys walk into the bar. One laughs and says to the other, "Look Bubba, there's the idiot who rode in our car while we were pushing it."
(it was probably "Lee-roy" who was speaking to "Bubba", those are pretty much the only two contry-f*ck names people who are not from the south seem to know)
As forwarded from my sis.
Here is a chicken recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing - imagine that! When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.
BAKED STUFFED CHICKEN 6-7 lb. baking chicken 1 cup melted butter 1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good.) 1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHERS LOW FAT)
Salt/pepper to taste ______________________________ Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush chicken well with melted butter, salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven. Listen for the popping sounds.
When the chicken's ass blows the oven door open and the chicken flies across the room, it is done.
And you thought I couldn't cook.
long time
well it has really been a long time since i have seriously blogged. things are really hectic at the moment, alot of work, i am going to fitness, next week i will meet with a lady to discuss private chinese lessons, and in two weeks, i want to start getting back into ju jutsu, plus at the end of november i'll be back in china for a week, plus all the daily stuff that crops up. lisa was promised on her birthday that she could have some "room pets" so today we will go look for a cage, for her "BRAND NEEEEEWWWWWW RRAAATTTSSS" yeeeehaaaa!! well it was that, or her next choice would have been an iguana, but sonni said "way no!!" (they arnt as cuddly") on the home front, it is good to see that bush is loosing support. i dont live in the states so i cant say first hand, but what has he really done good for america? i agreed with the war on terrorism in afghanistan, but iraq was and is a fiasco, a deadly trap for those who have had the least profit, the solders and civilians. most of niether wanted a war, nor do they profit from it. saddam was a criminal "führer" he really got down on alot of his subjects like the kurds, now everyone has the chance to have a bad day, because regardless of race or clan, everybody has lost almost everything, only a few privaledged are really gaining on this war. shame for all the men and women, both american and iraqi that have died a needless death. well nuff said bout that. i hope the peoples back home are getting on well after all those hurricanes, the only bad weather in german now apart from the seasonal weather is the bad storms still tossing in the political arena, gerhard really botched that gig, and woman or not, i dont think that the cdu is going to get the cow off the ice any time soon, so we can dress warm and look for a long cold (political and economical) winter. damn, it seems i am formally exploding with things to bitch about. hows this? someone stole my digital camera, real shame, the way it looks, it couldve been either the cleaning troup or someone from the stockroom, so now i have to take my laptop with me every day if i want or not, because if that things is gone, my world would break apart.AND ive got to look for a new camera. it was a good deal, so i dont know if i'll get to have the same or simular, wait-n-see. well gotta go, almost "gold ochsen" time (we dont have miller here)
Hello this is anothe
Hello, this is another test. Actually, I have tested this before, and it worked great. Then I had problems with my Outlook, now I am trying it again, maybe I’ll have more luck this time.
Anyways, as long as I am writing, then I might as well add some more. So far everything is OK, I was really sad about New Orleans, it seems a lot of the places we went to on our last vacation have gotten wasted, Pensacola, New Orleans, Mobile. Man I hope that that doesn’t keep happening, we will run out of places to go, as then I wont want to cause any one any trouble.
It is amazing how time flies, my daughter is 12, my son is 15, he is already looking for a place to start an apprenticeship next year, another 2-3 years and he will probably move out.
A lot of work in the office right now, I have a new colleague from China, I am teaching him some things, and hoping I can learn from him as well. He should take a lot of pressure from me, concerning the projects, and production in China, hopefully I get some more time, to start sales ;-))
Well gonna go and test this.
Lunch-Blog
First lunch-blog in quite awhile. What to say, what to say. Work is stressful as ever, the kids have summer holiday, and I can't wait for my vacation to start. Another 2 1 / 2 weeks. This time I'm working on getting things done well before my vacation starts, now it is pretty quiet, so I can really get things accomplished. As soon as I get back, then I have a week to catch up, then I will be back in China for a week. So it'll go bang-bang, back in the rut before long.
I will really enjoy the trip, we will be going to center parks in Bispinger Heide, a large vacation paradise, with covered tropical pool and market place. Almost everything inside is "fake" but you are not dependant on the weather. And cars are only allowed in to load or unload luggage at the bungalows, other wise, you just park the car and walk, or ride the bike everywhere, we were there about 2 years ago, and I have to admit, it was one of the most relaxing (short) vacations I've ever enjoyed.
It is only an hour south of Hamburg, so we plan to spend a night in Hamburg and visit some friends, and about 15 car-minutes away is an amusement Park with the highest (Largest?) wooden rollercoaster in Europe (WOW! CANT WAIT!!!)
Yep, I hope everyone who reads this gets jealous, but more over, I hope everyone has a good vacation, or at least a quiet period in which to collect and recollect.
back in hong kong
well i'm back in the hk airport, seems like thats one of the few places where i really have time to reflect on all these eclectrochemical processes jumping around in that glibbery pink thing thats called a "brain" it was a really quick paced week, jumping from one meeting to the next, the 6 day trip went reallz quick this time, and it seems it was worth the trouble, but we will really see the next couple of days/weeks. next week its work, sport, spend time with the fam, and more work. but i wanted it that way didn't i? i hope all is well in the states, sonni called my family, and wanted to ask if everything was ok afetr the huricane, her... she got daddy on the line, but she got through that fairly well i geuss, as she was able to laugh about it. i will really try to make an effort to start my lunch blogs again, i think that is the best time, and a quick way to clean the pallette, and go to lunch, and start the afternoon run with just a bit less stress. gonna go, flights in an hour, hope it goes smooth, gotta 1&1/2 books, a couple of films, and probably a couple of cold beers waiting. ( cool abou cathay pacific.... IT'S ALL FREE!!!! YAY... NO $5.- BEER OR WINE) ciao YO!
what a week
well the end of another week, how time flies! this week was... wow!
Monday started stormy and full of stress, but at least on Tuesday, all hell broke loose, then on Wednesday, things sped up a bit, but by Thursday the week had reach its climax, and today everything slowed from 100mph down to 120mph. This was really a week full of Mondays. But thats OK, it makes us appreiciate the weekends that much more. I really do like my job, but lets face it it is still a job, I guess that is why I like Friday, then I can go home and do non-job related things, except when I take the laptop home and do "home work". But even there I am doing it at home, maybe in the garden, or at the dining room table, loud music, TV, all the nice things you just dont really have on the job.
The weather isnt the greatest here, I hope it gets a bit better on the weekend, a bit of sun would help the spirits, I am finally getting over a sore throat, so I cant do any sport at the moment, so I would at least like to sit in the sun a bit, maybe fire up the grill, etc.
'nuff said for now.
A guy came into a bar one day and said to the barman "Give me six double vodkas." The barman says "Wow! you must have had one hell of a day." "Yes, I've just found out my older brother is gay." The next day the same guy came into the bar and asked for the same drinks. When the bartender asked what the problem was today the answer came back..."I've just found out that my younger brother is gay too!"On the third day the guy came into the bar and ordered another six double vodkas. The bartender said "Jesus! Doesn't anybody in your family like women?""Yeah, my wife..."
Another long stretch
Yeah, it has been another long stretch since my last blog, lack of time, and lack of interest are to blame. Blogging is fun in itself, but to use as a daily diary? I never have been the big diary type. A lot of days i really don't have much to say, so i say nothing, ther days i don't have much to say but say it anyways (like today) actually it isn't that so little happens in my life, or that i don't have funny things to tell, but i prefer face to face (or at least telephone) conversation, i guess chatting (i use msn forbusiness "chats" with some of our production sites) is also ok, but this seems pretty one-sided, and although i cant complain about any inferiority complexes, i am also not so in love with myself, to really believe that all that i write about myself is interesting to anyone but my friends or family. Yet when i write something here, i always have the feeling that i am writing to "anyone out there" who bumbles onto my blog (all praise the next blog button- amen) i know when i am blurfing, there are a few things that catch my attention and make me read further, such as funny lists ... top 100 things I... and sometimes rants, sometimes a story or jokes, i also like the blogs with pictures, but to tell you the truth dear fellow blurfer, i really don't want anyone out there to necessarily know what my family or myself looks like. So anyways, since I don't have much to say, I'll say this in conclusion....
YO!
long time no blog
.... yeah it has been quite awhile, i checked up my my blogs, and that of my sister, and then i blurfed a bit. strange, this time i kept comimng back to blogs i had just viewed minutes before...... ponder...... life goes on. my kids got me the book "Eragon" for fathers day, it was pretty good, I didnt realise it was a trilogy, until i was at the last twenty or thirty pages, and said... "hey, so far no climax, in fact far from it" the my wife told me, that my daughter knew that already ( she is reading it as well, but naturally in german) now i have two series that i have started, and will probably have to order the next books thro amazon. the book stores in ulm are poorly stocked with english lituatur, mostly just the newest best-sellers and "big names". well it is starting to turn warm (now and then) spring/summer is comming (about time) the concerts are starting up, we dont get alot of the "big" bands over here since 9/11, but some thing are really good, the next month and a half we will be pretty busy, here is our itenerary, if you dont know these guys, dont feel bad....
farin urlaub (singer from die ärzte)
willy deville (singer from mink deville)
maidaiko aska-gumi (trad. jap. drummers)
.. and we will see who else pops up this season, that isnt a bad start. i already (legaly) downloaded the first single from the foo fighters new album, sounds good, cant wait till i can (legally) buy it. what else? yeah, i went to an english speaking"stammtisch" a stammtisch is a regularly reacuring meeting, usualy in the same bar/cafe, usualy at the same table, but in this case they change resturants/bar/cafe every so often, so that the people can try new places. it was cool, i posted it on http://americans-in-ulm.blogspot.com/ before hand, and when i am thru here i will write a small piece for that as well. i wanted to spread the word about it a bit, but so far, dawn, who organises it, hasnt written so i dont her e-mail, as soon as i do, i hope to get more traffic. well maybe i can post more tomorrow.Yo!
