Ya know? I don't write to this blog very often, and I think I just found out why! I was just listening to Farin Urlaub's new CD (very good by the way), and there is one song "Gobi Todic", which said nothing to me, so I Wiki'ed it, and that said nothing to me either, so I looked on this blog, and it was interesting, but said nothing to me, so I started blurfing a bit, and it seems every other blog is either "Asian-sweet-cherry-cake-crumbs-and-look-at-me-and-my-friends-bla-bla…" or "…. my life and adventures…. "?!? My adventures?!? That is my problem, I am not really lazy, I just don't have any adventures!! Shit! Now I have to look at my heading, not that I wrote that I was going to write about any g*d-f*cking-*d*mned-*dventures!!

TGIF, man I am so tired lately, about all I can think of is weekend. Not that my job is bad, or extremely hard, my job is actually great, something to take pride in.

But on the weekend, I can sleep in a bit, I also need to work a bit more on my webpage, I can hang out a bit on Artbreak, check out what my "friends" have put online, and maybe go out and make some new pics. I need to get my son to finally get everything in his room finished, so that he can get his stuff out of the attic, so that I have room to work again. I feel like painting again.

And I need to photograph some things that I have done in the past, so that I can show them online as well. The weather is light grey, and at least it's dry, and should stay dry over the weekend.

I also need to study my Chinese a bit. Class on Tuesday and Thursday was really good, and since it is twice a week, something really stays put now.

It looks like I will be so busy, that I can't wait for Monday, to slow down.

Nice weekend y'all

Today is one of those days, when I feel like posting, but don't really have anything of interest. I guess that wont stop me though. Does that make me like the people who talk but don't say anything? I guess I could translate some questions I just got per mail:

-         When you choke a Smurf, what colour does he turn?

-         How does is it, that just enough happens, that fits into the newspaper?

Unfortunately, the others are all puns and such that only make sense in Germa.

My Sister always asked:

-         Daylights saving time. Why are they saving it, and where do they keep it?

Had enough?

It has been 4 days, and I have managed to drop a line every day. That is how it should work! I mean, to be honest, I've got absolutely no idea who, if any one reads this, so it doesn't really matter one way or another.  I could just as well wrixashdp UIEWW ECH EHAöösh xdxjehu ierucne xhwuihw xexheuhw euixhIW EUIU EU

Today is one of those cold, grey depressing days, in which I don't feel like doing anything. At best a book, a sofa, a cup of tea. Reading and sleeping at will.

If I ever won the lottery, that would probably be one of the first things I would do, is really take a few weeks, and do nothing. At least, only the most necessary, cooking, cleaning, etc. Otherwise, just what I feel like.

Until then, I have to keep working, so here it is, more work.

The sun is shining, and it is raining at the same time....

When I was growing up, our neighbour always said "The Devil is beating his wife"

I am sure that there is a meteorological reason behind it, but think; which woman would marry the Devil? Does she make his life hell? Does this mean that Hell has a feminine touch? Behind every successful man is a …., We could go on all day

Though it is cold, the sun is shining, which helps raise my spirits. Tomorrow, Chinese lessons start again and I didn't study any during the beak, lets see how far the others are, and if I need to do any catching up. It is also 2 times a week, which is good for learning, but puts a lot of stress on the work atmosphere, as I need to go 1.5 hours earlier twice a week, that means I need to bring in 3 hours a week to compensate. I also want to start programming my home page and loading the pictures, and I was considering starting Jiu-Jitsu again.

One thing at a time. At least the sun is shining.

The sun is shining, throwing multi faceted reflection of light and shadow on the fallen leaves. Sometimes something so common and banal can be a beautiful sight, but when photographed, seem boring because it is truly too ordinary. It can only be enjoyed for the personal moment.

But the air is getting colder…. Damn I hate winter!

The sky is grey, it is rainy, and the leaves have almost all left their trees. It is dark when I drive to work, and dark when I drive home. What does this tell us?

I saw again, that I haven't written in such a long time, I had to dust a bit and clear off the spider webs to be able to post this. The problem is, with the lack of sun, I get more and more lazy. I wanted to set up my new homepage, but haven't had the time, (really) nor the energy. Now that vacation and China travels are mostly over, then I can start talking to friends about how to do what, after all I am not really a HTML crack, and don't want to re-learn everything just to set up a homepage. What I am looking for is a small data bank where I can effortlessly upload my pictures, maybe under different tags or headers, without having to add buttons and pages and re-write and upload the whole home page. I know that this is possible, but since I don't do it every day, I'm not firm in it. Just as you wouldn't be firm in buying ironmongery and hardware internationally, if you don't do very often.

Chinese courses start again on Monday, oh boy am I in for it, I haven't studied a lick since the last semester, well just a couple of times with my colleague, but she isn't here every day, I really do need to start taking advantage of her working here and start talking with her.

Gonna go back to work now.

Back

Hey Gals and Guys,

I'm back!

First of all, no, we didn't have any major problems with the storms. The first week was rainy and grey, so we took a road trip from Lake City down to Clearwater, about 3 hours to the south, but they were still getting spin-off from Fay, so that was basically just an expensive day trip. But it was refreshing, and fun just to get out and be "doing something".

Sonja (my wife) and I went to Vegas for a few days and met an Army buddy and his wife. Meeting them was such a blast, that it more than compensated for Vegas. We decided that we are not "Vegas people". It is loud, flashy, busy, expensive, and we are more "Beach and Tiki-bar people", quiet, relaxed, feet-in-the-sand, a steak and beer. Oh well to each his own. The best part of Vegas, was seeing our friends and visiting the Hoover Dam, ironically though, we had to fly from Florida to Vegas, to go to a Margaritaville Café, to drink Margaritas and get a bit of Caribbean feeling.

The rest of the time in Florida was really sun and beach and family, and was totally too short.

I will take more time and talk and write to everyone later, and share some pics. I also made more "Artsy" pics, and will post some "as is" and other as collages, I am looking forward to that.

Take care and cheers,

Alan

Time flies

Wow, isn't it amazing how time flies? I added the Chitika adds to my blogs, and saw that I haven't posted in such a long time. What's new? Well I haven't lost as much weight as I had planned, I didn't get in shape to run the half marathon as I planned, I got sick a couple of times, but at least everything seems to be planned well for my upcoming vacation. I can report on that, … say in 6 months or so ;-)

As the Germans say "first of all, everything comes, secondly, different as expected"

Cheers anyways,

YO!

looong time since:

I've posted. Damn, I am so, so, so.....

Anyways, too much to write right now, but nothing so major, so I will procrastinate, and contemplate thinking about considering writing tomorrow.

Returned from China

Another couple of weeks have passed since my return from China, and I didn't post any blogs, shame on me! Maybe its because I am a lazy f*ck, maybe its because I am memory-challenged, whatever.

Anywho, I got back OK, I DIDN'T catch a cold upon my return, which made Alan a glad person. Since then I have returned to my trot, of not exercising, at least I am maybe still keeping my weight sort of down in a way and such.

I have added three (3) new paintings to my other blog (checky-outty - http://privatearts.blogspot.com/)

I still haven't sold any of these paintings or sketches, so anyone who wants to buy one most certainly can, if you don't need a painting or any sketches, you may feel free to send me money, just so, out of friendly gesture to paypal, if you do that I'll think about being your bestest friend, if you don't want to send me money, then maybe I'll still say "I likes you", and wish you a good start into the week.

I'm off

Well I am off to China on Sunday, I am feeling a bit better now, still a bit of a cough, but nothing serious. All of my joints, and my upper back hurt though, lack of movement, and all that coughing have taken a toll, I wont really be able to start any fitness until I get back, so I guess I will just have to deal with it.

On Monday, I took the test in the second course for Chinese. I passed, but I think Yan was peering through half opened eyes to let me pass, lol. I have said that we really have to start speaking a word or two of Chinese here in the office, but that is a matter of discipline, which was never my strong mark.

I am still tired, I feel like lying down and sleeping every afternoon, but that's hard to arrange at work, so I guess I'll get up and walk around a bit before starting the next task.

I think I'll write either from underway, or when I get back.

Everyone take care.

bad cold, no donut!

Well, the cold from my last post, turned into a real nasty flu type infection, with allot of stopped up bronchia and the whole kabang, 4 and ½ days off of work, luckily no spewing of any major body fluids, except from the nose and lungs. Monday I came back to work, and today I am still tired. It couldn't have been a worst time to get sick, as I needed last and this week, to clear up some things at work, and prepare for next weeks trip to China. Yeah, almost everyone is saying I should cancel, but as long as things are getting better, then I will still go. As my wife said, the hardest part is the flight with the totally dry air, but as long as I use allot of sea-salt nose spray, then I shouldn't have any problems. So far I haven't sold any art, bummer, I'll never get rich like this. As soon as I get back, I will make a few more paintings, and join the local "Culture & Fine Arts Club", so that I can finally get some real and professional criticism. They also have their own galleries, where I may be allowed to show some works. I guess I will have to start small.

Shame, no overnight-getting-discovered-so-that-I-can-quit-my-day-job-and-spend-my-days-sleeping-and-painting.

At least not yet…..

A cold

I have got such a big fat cold! Yuck, I hate that, it isn't bad if the nose is stopped up, but I really hate it if it is running all the time, I am always cleaning my nose, and now the nostrils hurt! 'nuff complained.

I have made a couple of new paintings, and uploaded these in Saatchi, and by Private Arts. My counter jumped from 26 to 45 visits almost overnight. If that is from my family, thanks, and if it is from anyone else, thanks that much more. It would be nice though if the people would leave a message.

The weather here is great this past weekend, today isn't so great, but still relatively warm. But I expect that it'll snow again round Easter.

On the 9th I fly to China again for a week, looking forward to it, I just hope I've gotten rid of this damned cold by then.

Well, 'till later.

Whats new?

So what's new? I was ashamed to see that I haven't written to my blog in such a really long time. That's the problem when I don't make out a certain time to write every day, even if it is only 1 or 2 lines. I started a blog documenting my weight loss, but gave that up quickly for the same reason. The only blog that I send any posts to at the moment is the Americans in Ulm, as there I don't really write anything, I just forward anything that pops up. I also apologise to anyone on my Yahoo lists, which I have also neglected. During work, I don't have much time to chat, and don't want to feel bad about brushing off anyone, and on the weekend, I usually don't have my laptop on that much, so I don't chat then either. Please accept my apologise if you feel spoken to.

On the other hand, I started actively loosing weight! I started doing more fitness, a couple of colleagues and I have decided to run a ½ marathon in September, so I decided to loose at least 15 – 20 kilos. I started at the beginning of January with 111,8 kg, and have brought it down to 105kg, and  continuing. I have all but stopped eating dinner. After 5 o'clock in the evening, I don't eat anything, I just drink allot of tea and water. Only on Sundays or if we go out, or business dinners, then I eat. Sundays I usually eat with the family so that we can sit together. That is also the day when either my wife or I cook something "special", so it would be a shame not to enjoy it. It was actually easier than I thought. The hardest thing, was to force myself to have some sort of breakfast. At 7:00 in the morning, I really don't have much appetite. But I started making either a banana/soy-milk shake, or congee, or a fairly fluid sort of oatmeal. Something that I don't have to chew too much. Lunch is fairly normal, whereas I naturally try to stay away from huge meals, or fatty foods, but ever now and then, a "Currywurst" and fries just has to be a part of my diet. In the evenings I drink allot of lapacho tea and mineral water. I have found out it is easier not to eat anything at all, than to sit in front of food and just eat a little bit.

My other big thing, is that I have started seriously painting and sketching in charcoal. I spoke with another American living in Ulm, an artist, who suggested that I just do it, just try it, and since I had done some simple things in the past, I did, and it is really fun.

My art can be viewed at:

http://privatearts.blogspot.com/

http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/yourgallery/artist/details.php?id=81501

We will see how far I can bring this.

Well 'nuff said for now,

YO!

Some Thoughts

"Still waters run deep, but the deeper the waters, the colder and darker the thoughts. Thus stay deep enough to remain unmoved from the tossing storm, but shallow enough to see and enjoy the light of the world." - Alan L. Heath
